Francisco Vazquez, who earned his B.A. in social science from Brandman University and worked as a One Stop specialist at the Riverside campus, recently surprised that campus by arranging for a flag to be flown over the U.S. Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan, and sent to the campus. The flags arrived on Flag Day, much to the delight of Kristin Plapis, Riverside campus director.
Vazquez earned a master’s degree from Hult International Business School in London in August 2016 and began working in diplomatic security in Kabul in December. While there, he asked friends in the Marine Security Department at the embassy to fly the flags.
“The reason I did that was because everyone at the Riverside campus played a huge role in my life and Kristin took a chance on me after I got out of the Marine Corps. I also did it because Brandman as whole gave me the amazing opportunity to reach a higher level of education, attend and succeed in business school on a global scale and ultimately taught me how to be a better person,” wrote Vazquez.
Vazquez also had flags flown for and sent to faculty members Michael Moodian and Michael Mastagni. Vazquez is currently on leave but plans to return to Kabul in July.
